greenwashing
Greenwashing is a marketing tactic used to make a company or product appear environmentally friendly in order to make sales by convincing us that buying products from that company means we are reducing our environmental impact on a path towards sustainability. They make bold claims with no substance, but abstract enough so they can’t be sued. They use colours that represent forests and natural environments, they do small sustainable actions that cover up the bigger nastier ones and they use words which we all associate with kindness and caring that make you believe them. They tell lies for profit.

I will never greenwash you. I will be honest about my products and this means I will tell you where I get my fabrics and what impact it has on people and planet if I can source that information. Of course there will always be ways to be even better but that is sometimes not available to an individual maker such as me, as it involves changing the law and political regimes, but I do hope that I will see those changes in my lifetime.

Fabrics
To begin with let tell you about the fabrics I use in my pads.
The grey Jersey and the black bias cotton are sourced from the Organic Textile Company, and have been since I started in 2018.
The OTC have a wonderful relationship with Genesh and his family in Kerala who make a wide range of handmade fabrics including the jerseys. They make them in small batches of 100 to 300 metres. The process is very artisan and hands on - the yarns are dyed by hand and the weaving is done by hand on small power looms or handlooms.
